Description

Garrett GTX4720R Gen II Supercore | 88mm Compressor | P/N 851285-5015S

The Garrett GTX4720R Gen II Supercore (851285-5015S) represents the upper limit of what most builders should consider on the GTX47 platform. Featuring an enormous 88mm inducer compressor wheel paired with a massive 120mm exducer, this turbo is engineered for applications demanding extreme airflow while still utilizing the proven GTX47 turbine section.

Built around Garrett's dual ball bearing center section and advanced Gen II compressor technology, the GTX4720R delivers exceptional efficiency and airflow capability for high-horsepower diesel engines, truck pulling, drag racing, and competition applications.

Unlike a complete turbocharger, this supercore includes the compressor housing, CHRA, turbine wheel, and shaft assembly, but does not include a turbine housing. This allows builders to choose the turbine housing configuration that best suits their specific engine combination and performance goals.

The GTX4720R utilizes an 88mm billet Gen II compressor wheel with a massive 120mm exducer, providing substantially more airflow than traditional GT47 and GTX4709 configurations. This wheel size pushes the GTX47 platform to its practical limit and is ideal for builders seeking maximum compressor flow without stepping into a larger frame turbocharger.

On the turbine side, the turbo retains Garrett's proven 93mm / 84mm turbine wheel. While this turbine wheel is highly capable, the 88mm compressor represents about as much compressor as most builders should pair with the GTX47 turbine platform. Beyond this point, airflow demands typically justify moving to a larger frame turbocharger with a larger turbine wheel to maintain efficiency, drive pressure control, and overall performance.

If your power goals require more airflow than an 88mm GTX4720 can provide, it's generally time to move into a larger-frame turbocharger rather than continuing to increase compressor size on the GTX47 platform.
