History of the ISX

The Cummins ISX engine has a long linage dating back to 1998.  The original ISX engine, or often referred to as a CM570, was a basic dual over head cam engine, with a NON-VGT Holset HX60 turbocharger.  This was back before common rail injection and modern emissions.  EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) was added to the ISX in 2003 when the engine graduated to a CM870.  In 2008, we we saw the next generation introduced,CM871, which included a DPF (Diesel Particulate filter).  Just 2 years later in 2010, the ISX again evolved to the CM2250 began the single cam area, where the ISX received common rail injection and also SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction), more commonly known as DEF (Diesel Exhaust Fluid).   While the basic engine block has remained the same since 1998, we have seen quite an evolution of this motor to keep up with modern demand and restrictions.
