Over the years, Detroit and Garrett produced several factory turbochargers that were never widely known outside OEM applications. This is one of those hidden gems.
Originally released as the factory turbocharger for select 685 HP Detroit Series 60 14.0L engines, this brand-new Genuine Garrett turbo packs serious hardware that most standard Series 60 turbos simply don't have.
It features a 79mm x 108mm boreless 6+6 compressor wheel, a high-flow GT47 turbine wheel, and an aggressive 1.27 A/R wastegated turbine housing. The result is outstanding throttle response, excellent spool-up, and significantly greater airflow than the typical GT42-equipped Detroit Series 60 turbocharger.
This isn't an aftermarket copy or rebuilt unit—it's a brand-new Genuine Garrett turbocharger built to OEM standards.

Boreless Compressor Wheel
One of the coolest engineering details is Garrett's boreless compressor wheel design. Instead of using a traditional center bore and retaining nut, the compressor wheel threads directly onto the turbine shaft.
While this design isn't intended to create additional horsepower by itself, it demonstrates Garrett's premium engineering and results in an exceptionally robust rotating assembly.
