A Budget-Friendly Step Up From the Factory CAT Turbo

The BorgWarner S410G Upgrade Turbo (PN: 1491 988 0017) bridges the gap between a stock replacement turbocharger and a full-blown performance upgrade. Starting with BorgWarner's proven stock replacement CAT turbocharger (177148), BorgWarner incorporated several of the most popular features from the legendary S410SX series to create a more capable turbocharger without the premium price tag.

This turbo features the same 78mm billet compressor wheel and heavy-duty 360-degree thrust bearing found in the S410SX lineup, providing improved airflow capacity, increased durability, and better resistance to thrust loading under higher boost conditions. BorgWarner also equipped this unit with a heavier wastegate actuator calibrated to approximately 36.5 PSI, allowing the turbo to maintain boost pressure more effectively than the factory configuration.

Where this turbo differs from the S410SX is on the turbine side. BorgWarner retained the factory-style 91mm / 82mm turbine wheel and turbine housing combination. While reliable, this smaller turbine is generally considered a limitation when compared to the larger turbine options found in many performance-oriented upgrades. As a result, the S410G Upgrade won't match the airflow potential or overall efficiency of its bigger S410SX brother, but it still delivers a noticeable improvement over the original 177148 turbocharger at a more attractive price point.
