ISX Turbo Kit FAQ

What’s Required for Installation

This kit includes components to install a T6 flanged turbo on to an ISX engine.  You will need additional components that are specific to your make and model truck; as the ISX can be found in a variety of truck configurations.  That being said, we cannot logistically include every last component for every truck configuration.  Outside of our kit, these items/tasks will need to be completed:

1. Attach your existing exhaust system to the rear of the turbo.  Our turbo utilizes a 5.75” full marmon flange, this is a very common connection and accepts a 5” pipe.  We include the clamp necessary for connecting to the turbo with the base kit.  Outside of the kit, we have adapters available for 4” and 5” exhaust hook ups, these adapters are an additional cost and will still require some level of fabrication (cutting, clamping/welding, adding flex pipe) to mate to your existing exhaust system.

2. Attach your air cleaner system to the front of the turbo.  We include a 90 degree rubber elbow in the kit.  Depending on you truck configuration, you may need to add air cleaner tubing or trim your existing tubing to make the connection.

3. An ECU or ECM re-tune/flash/calibration is absolutely necessary for the truck to perform with the new turbo installed.  Without this step, you truck will run poorly or not at all.

While we do our best to include everything you may need, your specific application may require some assorted hardware depending on the spec/previous work completed/installation method, etc.

We recommend installation by an experienced party.   This is not a simple “parts replacement” job, but it is very straight forward for someone experienced in upgrades and modern diesel engines. We have had plenty of owner operators install this kit, but have also seen standard repair garages struggle with installation.

This is a performance upgrade, not a direct replacement part.

Please contact us with any questions before purchase/installation.

What You Can Expect

A single geometry turbo has many advantages and a few disadvantages.   There is no reason to remove a good working VGT turbo on a stock truck; single geometry turbos are only recommended for engines with failed VGT turbos or those looking to increase power output.

Advantages:

-Lower maintenance and replacement cost

-More peak horsepower and torque

-Ability to choose alternate turbos and housing for desired power curve

Disadvantages

-Loss of some low end torque

-Loss of 3rd stage of exhaust brake

Our standard kits have multiple turbo options to support desired horsepower goals.  If you are not sure what size turbo your truck is capable of supporting, consult your mechanic.

Warranty: The turbo in each kit is covered under the manufacturers warranty, Momentum Worx does not control and does not cover any warranty for turbos in the kit.   For questions about turbo warranty, please consult the warranty statement from the specific manufacturer of the turbo you have chosen with your kit.  The items outside of the turbo itself in the kit are covered under a 1 year warranty against craftsmanship defects.

Install Tips

If you are using this turbo kit to replace a failed turbo, you should confirm what caused the failure on your previous turbo - or your new turbo may suffer the same fate.

If you purchased an S410SX: The hole in the compressor cover is not drilled all the way through.  This hole is casted in the manufacturing processes so that it can be drilled and tapped for applications that require a speed sensor.  A SPEED SENSOR IS NOT INCLUDED OR REQUIRED FOR THIS KIT.

Be sure to pre-lube the turbo before initial start up.  It takes a second for oil pressure to build and fill the turbo oil feed line, without preluding the turbo, the bearings will be dry during the first moment and prematurely wear or cause the turbo to fail.  We highly recommend changing the engine oil during installation.  The turbo is one of the most sensitive oil lubricated components and can easily be damaged by dirty/contaminated oil.

NOTE: We are not an installation shop. While we are happy to provide help pertaining to the specifics of your kit, we cannot trouble shoot issues related to your installation or tuning.  If you have any doubts pertaining to the process, we would not recommend purchasing or installing this turbo kit.
